exploring art and design, one day at a time

PaigeSmith-BioPicHi, I’m artist and designer Paige Smith, aka A Common Name. I’ve been a graphic designer for nine years and an artist for two. I started this blog about four years ago with the intention to share my inspiration and mainly my exploration of design. Quickly after starting to do my own art, I began creating site specific installation work on the streets and sharing that here on my blog. Soon, the project took over my life and I’ve had amazing opportunities to create larger installation works and travel the world creating my newfound art. I’ve been exploring this artistic expression very heavily since I began and now plan to continue this blog dedicated more to inspirations and my completed works. Comment and share and enjoy.

  1. Just stumbled on this trying to find out more about stop-motion grids. What did your friend make this out of?? Any info would be helpful.

  2. He made it out of PVC pipe. He sawed equal lengths of the pipe and fitted them together with PVC connectors. Every connector/intersection is wrapped with duct tape to make it stable and stay together. Since then, we’ve anchored the grid to the ceiling with wires, spreading them out evenly throughout the outsides and middle to help keep it strong and from bending.

Hope this helps! We’ve been very slowly progressing on the project, in the cheapest way possible!

Hi Paige! Just stumbled on your art. It’s so cool. Might I ask you what you use to create your geodes? I’d like to make some to decorate the home. Thanks!

  5. Hi there, sorry for the slow reply! I make my pieces out of folded paper or cast resin. I create my own molds for the resin pieces. Good luck!
